Description

We are looking for an outstanding graduate student to join our Advanced Optics team in Herzliya on a part-time basis alongside their studies. The Apple Camera Hardware Engineering group owns the end-to-end design, production, and testing of high-quality micro- and nano-optic components, including diffractive elements and metasurfaces. You will work closely with an experienced, interdisciplinary team spanning optical design, numerical simulation, optimization, and semiconductor fabrication. Take ownership of exploratory, high-risk/high-reward research projects in uncharted parts of the optical design space. Develop, adapt, and apply simulation, optimization, and inverse-design methods to push what our micro-/nano-optic components can do. Formulate problems, design and run numerical experiments, and critically analyze results — separating real effects from artifacts. Prototype ideas quickly, iterate, and know when to pivot or go deeper. Present findings and recommendations to the team, and translate promising results into directions the broader group can build on. Minimum qualifications: Currently enrolled in an M.Sc. or Ph.D. program in Physics, Electro-Optics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with availability to work part-time during your studies. Highly proficient in physical-optics simulation (e.g. RCWA, FEM, FDTD) and its underlying numerical algorithms. Strong command of optimization techniques and inverse design — the ability to pose and solve a design problem, not just run a solver. Prior work on metasurfaces is a major advantage. Hands-on experience performing optical measurements in the lab is an advantage. Highly motivated independent learner — comfortable driving open-ended problems where the path is unclear and the answer is unknown. Able to communicate sophisticated ideas clearly, in writing and in discussion, to a technical audience. Preferred qualifications: Enrolled in an ongoing M.Sc. or Ph.D. program in a relevant field for the duration of the position. Expectation to remain in student status in the next 2 years Available to work at least 2 days per week Proficient verbal and written English.
