Description
About the role Bird Aerosystems is hiring a senior real-time embedded software engineer for a team of 11 that builds firmware for airborne systems. The role sits at the hardware/software boundary. You will bring up new boards, write drivers and real-time firmware on ARM and FPGA-based platforms, and take features from design through lab integration to field trials. We are looking for an electronics engineer who writes production C/C++ and is at home with a scope and a schematic. Responsibilities Design and develop real-time embedded software in C/C++ on ARM-based platforms (STM32, Xilinx Zynq / UltraScale+) under an RTOS or bare metal Bring up new boards: low-level drivers, BSP, bootloader and embedded Linux kernel adaptation Implement and integrate communication interfaces and protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, RS-422/485, Ethernet, TCP/IP) Work closely with hardware, FPGA and RF engineers to define and debug HW/SW interfaces Debug in the lab with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and JTAG debuggers Implement and optimize signal-processing and control algorithms on embedded targets Build PC-side test, simulation and automation tools (Python, C#) Own modules end to end: requirements, design, documentation, integration, testing and field trials Requirements B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical or Electronics Engineering 5+ years of hands-on real-time embedded software development Strong C and C++ on ARM microcontrollers or SoCs Development on an RTOS (e.g. VxWorks, FreeRTOS, uC/OS, INTEGRITY) or bare metal, not only embedded Linux Proven board bring-up and low-level driver/BSP experience, including lab debugging with a scope and logic analyzer Hands-on experience with peripheral and communication interfaces: SPI, I2C, UART, RS-422/485, Ethernet, TCP/IP Professional working English (reading and writing technical documents) Advantages Strong advantage: Signal processing, communications or RF background: DSP algorithms, SDR, modems, radar, image or video processing FPGA exposure (VHDL/Verilog, Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus), enough to work closely with FPGA developers Defense, airborne, UAV or electro-optical systems experience Built a system from scratch through integration and field trials Writes own PC-side tools in Python, C#, Qt or LabVIEW Nice to have: Xilinx Zynq / UltraScale+ experience Embedded Linux kernel, u-boot and Yocto/Buildroot Technical leadership or module ownership in a small team DO-178 or another safety-critical development process Hebrew
