Description
Sheba Medical Center is building a new department focused on the future of medicine and the hospital workflow of tomorrow. We’re a small founding team of three engineers who will design and build clinical-grade products from scratch: AI-driven tools, real-time data platforms, and workflows used daily by doctors, nurses and patients. You’ll have real ownership, direct access to clinicians, and the chance to see your work change how care is delivered. Responsibilities Design and build the backend services and data infrastructure for the department from scratch. Work with large volumes of clinical and operational data, including data exploration, investigation and analysis. Plan, build and own data pipelines and ETL processes that ingest, normalize and integrate diverse data sources from hospital systems (EMR, lab, imaging, devices). Develop and implement advanced data solutions that support real-time clinical applications and analytics. Design data models and storage solutions, and write complex, optimized queries over large datasets. Ensure data quality, reliability, security and auditability across all pipelines, including automated data-quality checks. Collaborate with the full-stack developers, medical systems development teams, and clinical stakeholders to make data accessible, fast, and trustworthy. Contribute to infrastructure decisions, performance tuning and scalability. Qualifications 5+ years of meaningful backend and/or data engineering experience, including at least 2 years working in a data team. Expert-level knowledge in SQL: complex queries for data retrieval and manipulation, query optimization, and performance tuning. Proven experience extracting and analyzing data from large, complex databases. Deep experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server and Oracle): schema design, performance tuning, migrations. Proven experience developing and maintaining production data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes, with a deep understanding of data infrastructure. Strong Python for data processing and analysis, including analytical libraries (e.g. pandas, NumPy). Experience with cloud infrastructure (Azure and/or AWS) and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes). B.Sc. in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Industrial Engineering & Management, Economics or a related field, or equivalent experience from an IDF technology unit. Team player with a great attitude: we hire people who want to make a difference. Loves owning systems end to end, from design through production and beyond. Nice to have (Advantages) Experience with streaming and messaging technologies (Kafka, Redis, Event Hubs). Experience with orchestration and data tools (Airflow, dbt, Spark, Databricks or similar). Familiarity with healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7, DICOM). Experience preparing data for ML/AI use cases (feature stores, vector databases). Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Helm).
