We are looking for an experienced Senior Automation Consultant to lead complex implementation, integration, testing and operational-readiness workstreams within major automated and semi-automated container terminal projects. Your focus is not on designing individual pieces of technology. You will take ownership of ensuring that equipment, software, processes and people come together into an integrated terminal operation that actually performs. You will work alongside terminal management, project teams, equipment suppliers and software vendors, providing independent expertise from implementation through testing, commissioning and operational ramp-up. What will you bring Required You combine strong container terminal operational knowledge with practical automation implementation experience. You understand both the technology and what is required to make it work in a live terminal environment. Ideally, you bring: 10+ years of relevant experience in container terminals, automation or terminal technology. Hands-on involvement in one or more automated or semi-automated terminal implementations. Strong knowledge of terminal operations and automated container-handling equipment. Experience with TOS, equipment control and/or fleet management systems. Experience with system integration, testing, commissioning and operational ramp-up. The ability to work effectively with terminal operators, OEMs, software vendors and system integrators. Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills. Willingness to work internationally and spend time on client sites during critical implementation phases. What you will do You will take a senior role in automation implementation projects, including: Implementation ownership – advising terminal project teams during implementation of automated equipment and systems such as ASCs/ARMGs, AGVs, automated terminal tractors, automated or remote-controlled Quay Cranes, TOS, ECS and fleet management systems. Lead system integration– ensuring that equipment, TOS, equipment control, fleet management, safety systems and operational processes function as one integrated system. Coaching/project leadership: guiding junior/medior consultants and coordinating multidisciplinary teams. Supplier coordination – challenging suppliers, identifying gaps between individual scopes and helping resolve cross-vendor issues where responsibilities and interfaces are not always clear. Testing & commissioning – taking ownership of the test and acceptance approach for complex automation implementations, from defining acceptance criteria and test governance to coordinating suppliers, resolving issues, and using test results to support go/no-go decisions for commissioning and operational ramp-up. Simulation & emulation – using Portwise’s simulation and emulation capabilities to validate software, interfaces, operational logic and performance before and during physical commissioning. Operational readiness – ensuring that procedures, control-room organization, exception handling, training and operational processes are ready for go-live. Ramp-up & optimization – supporting terminals from first automated moves through to stable operations, analysing performance data and helping identify and eliminate bottlenecks. Depending on the project, you may act as client-side automation advisor, implementation lead, integration lead, testing & commissioning advisor or operational readiness/ramp-up specialist.
